DTU SPE Student Chapter members field trip to Schlumberger drilling facilities in Esbjerg

Thursday, 27 March 2014, 18 students of DTU SPE Student Chapter members visited Schlumberger drilling facilities at Esbjerg. Upon arrival to the site, the students were warmly welcomed by the host, Børge Mathiesen, and listened to four different presentations by Schlumberger employees. The presentation covered an overview of Schlumberger company, Schlumberger activities in Esbjerg, coil tubing and its application, wireline and logging tools, and well testing. After presentation, the students were divided into two groups and were guided to see the facilities in the Schlumberger yard. After a tour with explanations from the Schlumberger employees, the students went to the M-I SWACO/D&M office where they were hosted by Søren Brink Jensen. Here the students listened to presentations on the drilling fluids and directional drilling technologies. The presentation followed by a tour to M-I SWACO/D&M yard to see drilling pipes, drill bits, and cuttings separators. For many students, this was the first touch of the real drilling technology in field conditions, and this was a fruitful experience. The field trip was generously sponsored by Schlumberger and the SPE Copenhagen section.
