From an academic perspective, the conference was schedule was jam-packed! I was fortunate to catch quite a few of the DTU presentations and we acquitted ourselves well in the dissemination of our work. Of the other presenters, there were too many special presentations to name, but certainly the talk on industrial applications by Michael Kleiber of ThyssenKrupp should be highlighted. - Francois Krüger

Participating in the 29th European Symposium on Applied Thermodynamics was one of the highlights of this year for me. Academia and industry came together in Bucharest to promote research and examine possible solutions to challenging problems. The city is beautiful and steeped in history.

The conference provided fertile ground for engaging conversations between experienced researchers and industry representatives with students and younger scientists. This is great motivation for us, seeing that our work can inspire passionate discussions. The Teaching Thermodynamics Workshop was one of the most interesting sessions, giving us an idea of how professors deal with the deceptively simple task of teaching, trying different ways to disseminate knowledge.

Apart from a poster, I was lucky enough to be accepted for an oral presentation – my first time doing this in an international conference. It was an amazing experience and I am looking forward to participating next year as well!

The 29th European Symposium of Applied Thermodynamics held in Bucharest was a good and interesting conference.  With a strong and packed program with three parallel sessions, there were always interesting talks to attend. My focus for the choice in talks to attend was on equations of state, and particularly for electrolytes. While the number of talks on this topic was not large, the ones there where was very interesting. For me personally, it was nice that my own talk on electrolyte CPA was well attended, and that I received interesting questions afterwards.

The city of Bucharest was a great setting for the conference and a guided trip around the city gave a good impression about the 20th century history of Romania and Bucharest. I was particularly intrigued by the architecture of the Palace of the parliament, which seems to be a gigantic construction.

Overall, the conference was absolutely worth the trip, and I will look forward to participate again sometime in the future.

From a personal perspective, the 2017 ESAT Conference represented two significant ticks on the checklist: visiting Romania, and a first international conference presentation as a PhD. Bucharest is vibrant city with a well-worn yet beautiful feel and we were treated with more than a few priceless quips by our tour guide.

Perhaps the best part of the conference was the number of new friends and connections made, while also reminiscing with old faces. Tina did an absolutely amazing job in the organization of the conference this year! Looking for forward to doing it all again in Prague next year, along with a few more ticks on the checklist.

The 2017 ESAT conference was an amazing opportunity to participate in the creation of knowledge on applied thermodynamics since it brought together researchers from academia and industry from all around the world, allowing productive discussions in different areas of the field.

The program was quite packed but it was necessary in order to encompass the advances in theoretical works as well as new experimental findings. Moreover, it was quite impressive to see the presentations done by our colleagues at DTU, which had the same standard of excellence as other international research centers. It was also an incredible experience for me to give a talk at the conference, as it was the first time in my life on such an event and especially because I received some interesting remarks on my work.

Finally, it is worthwhile pointing that the committee did a great job regarding the social activities. I particularly liked the tour around Bucharest, which gave me an insight of the history of this vibrant and beautiful city. It was a great experience and I hope to participate in the coming years’ ESAT.
