Associate Professor Nicolas von Solms was recently invited to give seminars at the University of Illinois, Chicago and at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), where Octave Levenspiel and J.H. Rushton of the Rushton turbine are numbered amongst the former faculty of this institution with a very long history.
While at IIT Assoc. Prof. von Solms also met with several faculty with a view to research collaboration.
In his talks Assoc. Prof. von Solms discussed his recent research in the areas of carbon capture, utilization, transport and storage; gas hydrates; thermodynamics and phase equilibrium; petroleum technology and polymer technology.
He stressed the need for a fundamental, discipline-based approach to solve large problems of significance to society where chemical engineers have a lot to offer.
