Stratigraphy and sedimentology of Lower Cretaceous carbonates in the Danish Central Graben – present state of knowledge and targets for future research.
Abstract
The presentation is based investigations of four cores from the Lower Cretaceous in the Danish Central Graben.
The aim of this study is to recommend future sedimentological and stratigraphic research targets which will ultimately improve recovery from Lower Cretaceous reservoirs through improved development.
Our analysis suggests that there is considerable potential in investigating the fundamental controls on the stratigraphic and lateral distribution of clay minerals, the detailed architecture of reservoir heterogeneity (as a function of depositional facies and stratigraphic development), and improvement of the extraction of geological information from cuttings.
The success of such investigations is considered to rely on the integration of sedimentological, stratigraphic, and geophysical methods and the ability to integrate observations across scales.
