“Further Development of PC-SAFT Equation of State for Polar Systems and Impressions of Linde”
By
Edgar Luis Camacho Vergara
Abstract:
One of the most important of several problems in science and engineering, especially in the field of Chemical Engineering, is the knowledge of the thermodynamic properties of many complex systems of great interest for the industry. In particular, it is of great concern having the capability of predicting the vapor-liquid equilibria (VLE) of these systems.
The company Linde AG in Munich, Germany started a project that consisted in the implementation of the PC-SAFT equation of state [] and the dipolar contribution [] in the study of mixtures of associating fluids, hydrocarbons and components with dipolar moments. As a continuation of this project and in association with CERE, a special course was set up in which the quadrupole [], and quadrupole-dipole [] contribution of the PC-SAFT EoS was implemented to evaluate the capabilities of the model in the prediction of the VLE of systems containing components with high polar moments, like the case of carbon dioxide, which its strong quadrupolar moment has meaningful effects in the thermodynamic properties of these mixtures. The project was carried out during the summer of 2015 in a three-month internship at Linde AG.
