John gave his Inaugural lecture entitled "Model-based control - from industrial process optimization to new biomedical products" on November 15, 2019. The lecture was given in front of an interested audience which has totally filled in room 1 of Building 101 at DTU.

In the lecture, John presented a "unified approach to model-based experimental design, state- and parameter-estimation, prediction error method based system identification, and predictive control along with novel advances in scientific computing for such systems enabling significantly improved operation of oil fields, new processes such as the U-loop reactor for production of single-cell protein to provide food for a world with 9 billion people, the green transition by electrification of our energy system, and new health technologies such as the artificial pancreas for people with diabetes."

As evident from the above description, the generic tools and concepts devopped by John and his group have a wide range of applications from energy resources to biotechnology and indeed the
important role of high-performance and scientific computing was illustrated in the lecture through several case studies covering these diverse applications.

John has been an active member of CERE over many years, including projects like OPTION which involved several of CERE's associated departments.

On behalf of everybody in CERE, I wish to congratule Professor John Bagterp Jørgensen for this very well-deserved recognition and we are looking forward to further collaboration.
