On Wednesday, 30 March 2014, 20 students of the DTU SPE Student Chapter were invited to attend a workshop at Maersk Oil headquarter in Esplanaden. The event started with breakfast at 8.30, followed by safety introductions and a presentation by Lee MIligan, Global MITAS Recruiter for Maersk Oil. Lee‘s presentation covered introduction to Maersk Oil company and Maersk Oil recruitment program for graduates, MITAS. Subsequently the students were offered a unique insight into the career opportunities offered to a reservoir engineer in the presentation by Hans Horikx, Chief Reservoir Engineer for Maersk Oil and Gas. Hans gave an exciting and astute account of his career path and the limitless opportunities the Oil and Gas industries have to offer budding new graduates. A DTU graduate, Roelof Bjarke Pedersen, presented his experience as a MITAS graduate after Hans’ presentation. Following a brief coffee break, a case study was presented to the students by Vural Sander Suicmez, senior reservoir engineering from Maersk Oil. The students were divided into teams of four and they have to compete to solve the case study. The case study was an example of a reservoir engineering scenario to calculate the original oil in place and the recovery factor. Congratulations to the winning team, Kjartan Steinar Gíslason, Kaloyan Penov, Mehrdad Ahkami and Christian Haugwitz. The event was closed by lunch and more than 10 reservoir engineers from Maersk Oil joined the lunch to build up network with the students. The student chapter would like to extend a special thanks to Lee MIligan and Hans Horikx for organising a thoroughly enjoyable event.
