COMPPLEX (Compositional Reservoir Simulation Involving Complex Phase Equilibria)

COMPPLEX (Compositional Reservoir Simulation Involving Complex Phase Equilibria), currently sponsored by ConocoPhillips and ExxonMobil, started in 2014 at CERE. The project deals with the accuracy of thermodynamic models, and the reliability and efficiency of phase equilibrium calculation algorithms in compositional reservoir simulation where complex phase equilibria are present. The scope of the project covers complex reservoir processes, such as production of heavy oil with steam and solvent, enhanced oil recovery with CO2, and development of liquid rich shale (LRS) reservoirs. Two PhD students, Diego Sandoval and Duncan Paterson, just started under the supervision of Wei Yan, Michael L. Michelsen, and Erling H. Stenby. The project is open for the inclusion of more industrial sponsors by which the scope can be expanded further.
