Nikolaj Sorgenfrei Bloms talk, entitled “What if water is the technology we have been waiting for?” resonated deeply with the participants and delegations present, in particular bridging to the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) that were on the top of the agenda for the World Economic Forum (WEF).
He also performed the Floating Water Bridge experiment live, attracting even more people from around the globe and igniting deep discussions on water, technology, planet and environment.

The event featured several themed events of which the African night was particularly memorable. A number of youthful and proud African entrepreneurs and changemakers shared their stories of making an impact and restoring the hope for the future for many Africans. The formal session was concluded by Queen Diambi of Congo who took the audience by storm by conducting a water blessing ceremony, followed by a heartfelt speech about “we are all African by origin” and ending by transforming the conference hall into a giant afrobeat dancehall party – a true dancing queen of hearts!
The energy, joy and optimism of that night was truly palpable and in great contrast to the black limos, helicopters, SWAT teams, and high security also surrounding a high-profile event like WEF.
By the end of the week, Nikolaj Sorgenfrei Blom, and his newly found water science and entrepreneur friends from the US, Canada, Poland and Austria, had certainly put the new science and technology of water on the global agenda of the attendees.
The future will tell what ripple effects were initiated.
