Xiaodong Liang new Professor

We welcome Xiaodong Liang as a new professor in our Department. Xiaodong has been appointed Professor of Thermodynamics and Process Systems Engineering at DTU Chemical Engineering, with a start date of 1 October 2026.

Xiaodong has an MSc in Chemical Engineering from ECUST, China (2007) and a PhD from DTU (2014). He has been a faculty member of our Department since April 2015.

In the period 2007-2011, he worked at Honeywell (Shanghai/Calgary) on thermodynamic models and algorithms for process simulations.

Xiaodong’s research interests include models, theories, and algorithms of molecular thermodynamics with a wide range of applications (electrolytes, water, environment, energy systems) as well as computer-aided process and product design and optimization and AI/Machine-learning methods for property predictions, molecular design, and process modeling. He has published 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts in these areas and has received many recognitions and grants, of which the most important is probably the European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant (2024). He has established extensive collaborations with many companies, several of which are associated with CERE consortium and KT Consortium.

We congratulate Xiaodong on his appointment as professor, and we are convinced that he will bring new focus and energy to the field of applied thermodynamics and its link to Process Systems Engineering, to the benefit of our department and DTU.
