The 2011 Christopher J. Wormald prize was presented to Dr. Ane Avlund during Thermodynamics 2011 conference in Athens (August 31 - September 3, 2011) for her innovative research in thermodynamics.

The Christopher J. Wormald prize is awarded to an outstanding graduate student to recognize research undertaken within the broad remit of the conference. The prize is offered in honor of Christopher J. Wormald, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Thermodynamics conference series.

Dr. Avlund received her PhD in 2010 from the Technical University of Denmark, Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. She worked at the Center of Energy Resources Engineering (CERE) under the supervision of Professors Georgios Kontogeorgis and Michael Michelsen in extending the SAFT theory to include the effect of intramolecular association.

Her PhD thesis is entitled "Extension of association models to complex chemicals". During her PhD thesis, she spent several months in Rice University working on SAFT developments under the guidance of Professor Walter Chapman. Ane held a lecture during the conference entitled:
"Intramolecular association within the SAFT framework".
