The Physical sediment laboratory is divided into the sediment laboratory and the preparation laboratory.
The preparation laboratory produces covered and polished thin sections; polished samples; cutting, sawing and plugging all solids including sediments and rocks; maintenance of microscopes.
The sediment laboratory is equipped with:

- Gas permeameter for 1 inch plugs
- Surface Area Analyser- BET
- X-ray powder diffraction analysis
- P-wave velocity
- Equipment for P- and S-wave velocity and electric resistivity (plug samples)
- Centrifuge
- Sieving analysis of sediments
- Jaw crusher
- Disc mill
- Vibratory disc mill
- Access to sedigraph and helium gas Pycnometer.
