CAPCO2

This software contains a rate based column model for CO2 absorption and desorption. It is implemented as a standalone software with an Microsoft Excel interface.

It has a an Aspen User Model interface and a CAPE-OPEN interface. Therefore it can be used in Aspen Plus or in other CAPE-OPEN process simulators like PRO/II or COCO. It can be used for of CO2 capture facilities, biogas upgrading, and gas scrubbing simulation.

CAPCO2 contains a robust iteration algorithm which guarantees a solution for the column calculations and it is therefore very easy to get convergence in Aspen Plus – which is a benefit compared to other rate based columns in Aspen Plus.

CAPCO2 uses the accurate thermodynamic electrolyte packaged called extended UNIQUAC for property calculation and speciation determination. It is therefore also capable of predicting slurry formation in the column and consistently perform predictions in a rate based slurry setup.

The model has currently been applied to MEA, MDEA+enzyme, and Piperazine (PZ)+K2CO3. It is a modular toolbox which allows for extension to other systems.
