High temperature odeometer cell

This cell will be used to simultaneously make static and dynamic (sonic P and S wave velocity) measurements.

Furthermore it can be used to measure permeabilities at elevated pressure and temperature.

This cell is for samples of 1.5 inch diameter and a height up to 1.5 inch. It can be heated up to a temperature of 150°C.

Oedometer tests are designed to simulate one-dimensional deformation and drainage conditions and derive rock compressibility.

The soil or rock sample is held in a rigid confining ring, which prevents lateral displacement, but allows the sample to swell or compress vertically in response to applied load changes.

Vertical stresses are applied from a load frame, and deformation measured continuously. Specially designed oedometer tests allow us to derive Biot’s effective stress coefficient and compare to dynamically coefficients derived from wave velocity and density.

The ability to increase testing temperature allows analysis of changes in both static and dynamic Biot’s coefficient as a temperature function.
