Hoek cell

Hoek cell consists of a hollow steel cylinder with threaded removable ends. A urethane rubber sleeve incorporating U-shaped seals and allows to apply confining stress by hydraulic fluid.

Hoek cell is a triaxial cell which allows determining:

  • Strength and elastic properties
  • Shear strength at different confining pressures
  • Angle of shearing resistance and cohesion
  • Modulus of elasticity and Poisson’s ratio

Our custom made pistons allow simultaneous elastic wave velocity and electrical resistivity measurement. The convex end of the pistons allows self aligning of the sample under axial stress applied by a load frame.
