The project aims to demonstrate the full CO2 capture and storage (CCS) value chain from a cement plant, as this first site ever.
The objectives are:
1. Capture and condition at least 20 ton CO2 from flue gas during a campaign in 2024
2. Measure the quality of the CO2 and compare with existing standards relevant in 2024
3. Evaluate effect on impurities on CO2 transportation in a new 50 m long CO2 pipe test facility to
prepare for CO2 infrastructure that can be implemented in 2025.
The CASPER project has succeeded in attracting project partners across the whole value chain, see Figure 1.
Emitters, technology providers, quality controllers, CO2 transport and storage partners are all included in the
project. The project partners include:
1. Aalborg Portland (AALPOR), the largest industrial single point CO2 emitter.
Task: host test campaign.
2. Pentair, a CCS technology provider.
Task: support test campaign.
3. Teknologisk Institut (TEK), emission quality and technology institute
Task: measure nitrosamines and perform systems analysis
4. Dansk Gasteknisk Center (DGC), gas analyses institute
Task: ensure CO2 quality
5. EVIDA, future owner of the CO2 gas grid in Denmark.
Task: construct and test CO2 transport in pipes.
6. Gas Storage Denmark (GSD), a storage site for CO2 onshore.
Task: support infrastructure development.
7. Technical University of Denmark (DTU) chemical engineering, research institute with a pilot plant for CCS activities.
Task: install, capture and condition CO2 at AALPOR.
