Nikolaj Sorgenfrei Blom, senior researcher at CERE



is a Danish biochemist and trans-disciplinary, adventurous scientist who has always worked to bridge the gap between academic science and industrial applications – in positions as associate professor, senior department manager and senior specialist. He has authored 30+ peer-reviewed papers, 2 issued patents, an H-index of 25 and more than 7,000 citations.

His deep passion for science and for developing excellent research teams has taken him from supercomputer based gene discovery to microbe hunting in the deep polar seas.

Currently, he is pursuing activities within applied quantum biology – gaining a deeper insight into the connection between water, electromagnetic fields and living systems. This is manifested by a Villum Foundation Experiment grant and collaborations with filmmakers and science communicators such as the Collaboratorium.

is a chemical engineer and professor in applied thermodynamics. He is the author of over 220 peer review publications with 7500 citations, H=48 and 4 books including two monographs (thermodynamics and colloids & interfaces).

He is member of the Danish Research Council of Technology and Production Sciences (2012-2017). He has published numerous scientific articles on thermodynamic models and theories which account for hydrogen bonding phenomena like the ones occurring in water as well as studies on the effect of water structure on its hydrogen bonding properties (obtained from theories and from spectroscopic measurements).
