Scale thickness prediction using extended UNIQUAC

This project aim to predict the scaling and corrosion occurring in the production wells in the North Sea.

By comparing model predictions with well samples from the North Sea, it is possible to validate the findings.

The final goal is to use the results to predict future scaling or corrosion in order to maintain well integrity.

The project is part of the larger project “Understanding under deposit corrosion (UDC) and corrosion scales”. The projects aim is to be able to understand and predict corrosion and scaling. It is a collaboration between DTU KT, DTU MEK, Institute for Energy and Technology (Norway), and Mærsk/DHRTC.

This project uses water sample data collected from production wells in the North Sea and uses the extended UNIQUAC to predict the amount of scaling and corrosion that have occurred in the well.
The data used in the project was organized and analyzed by Ander Schlaikjer and sorted into periods. Important events such as Acid treatment were catalogued. This work resulted in tables that were used to predict the scale layer.

The data from the tables are implemented into the extended UNIQUAC in order to estimate the scale layer. Water flow, inner diameter, temperature, pressure, CO2 content, special events, and duration of the period are accounted for in the predictions.
