The agnion gasification process will be operated in order to produce syngas for bench scale fermentors. Agnion Highterm Research will deliver a laboratory scale gasifier, which runs in the range of 0.5 to 5 kW firing rate. The gasifier will be installed, commissioned and tested at DGC. The present experience with this gasifier at agnion is more than 10,000 running hours. The product is a syngas with high concentrations of CO, H2, and CO2. Analysis of the gas will be carried out and mass and energy balances for the gasification of wood and lignin will be made showing the cold gas efficiency of the gasifier.
In a later work package, the methanation and liquid biofuels fermentation units will also be connected to the gasifier and complete mass and energy balances will be made (DTU & DGC).
The gasification technology, which will be applied in SYNFERON, produces syngas of very low content of molecular nitrogen and therefore it is expected that its bio-methanation will result in production of synthetic natural gas (SNG) which will be allowed to be injected into the natural gas grid.
